Can You 3D PRINT a Better Dry Cabinet for Filament?

Wet filament is the silent killer of good 3D prints.

We all know that 3D printer filament absorbs moisture over time. And when that happens, you start seeing the usual problems: stringing, bubbling, weak layer adhesion, and rough surfaces. Sure, you can dry filament—but drying is only a temporary fix.

What many makers don’t realize is that moisture can permanently degrade certain filaments. It can damage plasticizers, leaving you with brittle, stale filament, and repeated high-temperature drying cycles (even in the best filament dryer) can even degrade the polymers themselves. Not to mention… who actually plans ahead enough to dry filament for 8 hours before printing?

So the real question isn't "how to dry filament" or "what's the best filament dryer." It's "how to store filament" in a way that KEEPS it dry.

Unfortunately, most existing filament storage solutions are bulky, expensive, or just plain ugly - no offense. I've seen plenty of 3d printed filament dry box setups that... quite frankly... I wouldn't want on my shelves. And while filament storage bags work quite well in my experience, they're just not that convenient - or durable.

So in this video, I attempt something a little ambitious:
building a fully functional filament dry cabinet designed to keep 3d printer filament dry and ready to print whenever it’s needed.

But will it actually work?

Will the humidity stay stable?
Will the design hold up?
And most importantly… will I finish the project before I burn through 12+ kilos of filament and two weeks of my life?
