I'm trying to get better at this one. I only got to play this one for a few months as a kid. An Amidar was located in the back of my local grocery store. It was tucked away in a dark corner by the meat and dairy products. This was unusual because most businesses kept video games up front so customers would see the games through the windows and come inside.
This is something I'd like for younger game enthusiasts to know because what I'm describing is part of video game history that I feel should be related so that it's not lost to time.
Back in the early 80s, every business wanted to have at least one video game on display. Ideally, business owners wanted Pac-Man because that's the one that would bring flocks of people even if it was just to watch someone else playing ( yes, we really were that bored ). But even places like a dentist would sometimes have an arcade game. Everyone could'nt get or afford a Pac-Man so they would rent whatever was available from vendors.
Searching for new games was a thing. On weekends, I'd get out and search the spots that had games and see if a new one was added. All this was great fun and a real-life adventure. I could play a few games very well, and I loved playing them in public. I would feel like a tiny star when crowds would form around me while I played Ms Pac-Man.
I really loved arcade gaming.
