Truth or Consequences is a small town in Southwestern NM with 10 hot springs resorts, art galleries, a few restaurants, a brewery and a great pizza spot. The Rio Grande River runs through town and there's a dam with a recreational reservoir and dispersed camping.
Unfortunately I missed the hot springs but I toured some of the ruins around the dam site and cooked up some homemade sweet potato fries.
Elephant Butte ruins dispersed recreation area is just 20 minutes out of town where there is free camping, a lake, and ruins from the building of the dam.
