Hand-painted 1953 Mickey Mantle Art Card

Описание: I have illustrated Mickey Mantle 5 times now, and this sixth time I was finally able to do a new version of the iconic Yankee slugger. I was thrilled when this client requested a different card from such a familiar player.

The Mantle card from the 1953 Bowman set is not as well known as his iconic Topps rookie, but its an great example of Bowman’s mission to create one of the most beautiful card sets of the all time, and it nearly bankrupted them in the process. In the end they succeeded in creating something magical.

I normally spend at least 25% of my time on these card projects, recreating some kind of text and design graphics and this card required absolutely NONE of that.
A simple photograph. That’s all.
The chance to focus on the player alone made this card a pleasure and a challenge to illustrate….
