According to the Global TB Report 2025, India’s tuberculosis burden is falling, but elimination remains distant. India bears the world’s largest TB burden, accounting for 25% of global cases. While infections and deaths have declined steadily since 2015, the country remains off-track to meet its 2025 elimination goal.
Through initiatives like TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana, and the National TB Elimination Programme, India has expanded testing, community screening, and AI-based diagnosis, helping detect hidden cases earlier than ever.
Despite this progress, TB continues to be the world’s deadliest infectious disease. India’s progress offers hope, but sustained focus and innovation are key to a TB-free future.
