Our Lake Como Cake, or Miascia as it is traditionally called, is based on an Italian traditional dessert which makes great use of leftover bread. The cake is soaked in cream, mixed with fruit, nut, and chocolate, baked, and topped with homemade candied fruits with mustard seed. This dessert may have originated as a "poor man's dessert" but clearly even stale bread can be turned into something beautiful as it is delicious.
