Australia is moving to tighten screening of new foreign investments. Leaders are increasingly concerned about takeovers of domestic interests and the influence of China. Foreign investors -- both private and public -- will be subject to a review when the investments are considered sensitive. The treasurer will have new powers to counter perceived national security risks. Foreign economies had A$3.8 trillion dollars invested in Australia at the end of 2019. The US and UK accounted for more than 40% of the total, while China accounted for nearly 6%.
