"Tight is right" is correct - until it's horribly wrong. See why making tight folds is NOT a good strategy: https://www.splitsuit.com/folding-cor...
In this hand, Oliver is playing 100NL online and ends up flopping bottom set in a multi-way pot. After check-raising the flop and getting 2 callers, the draw completes on the turn and to hero's surprise, the SB leads out. Oliver said this in the write-up:
"The thing I'm obviously most interested in is your opinion of the turn. When V2 lead out I just thought I have absolutely 0 bluffs there ever, and I don't think many other players do, hence the fold. The thing is, I think his standard line should have been check-raise there. Had he checked, I would have bet probably around $45 , V1 almost certainly would have called, and then when V2 shoved I would have been committed.
Assuming V2 checks, is there any way out of that situation, or do you think this was basically just a cooler that V2 was helpful enough to tell me I was behind and still had room to escape?"
SplitSuit breaks down the flop line, the check-raise size, and the turn thought process. While this spot should have been a slam dunk situation, a nitty and scared mindset can creep in and lead us to make a -EV fold.
