@Amy8811 asked: At what stage do you do the IPR? After Alignment?

Whenever possible, try to align before undertaking the IPR, as your visibility and access will be much better. Even if you are unable to achieve full alignment prior to IPR, commencing alignment would make undertaking the IPR easier and you’re probably less likely to create a ledge or a step. If for any reason, you’re unable to align prior to doing the IPR, undertake incremental IPR, aligning as you go.

The other question we received* was:
How do you know how much you’re removing if you’re using a separator?


If you’ve put a separator in for a week, once you’ve removed it, use the measurement guide to assess what the space is before you start IPR, then use your measurement guide as you’re undertaking the IPR to know how much you’ve removed. E.g.: if initial space after removal of separator is 0.4mm, and you’re intending to remove 0.3mm of enamel, undertake IPR until the measurement guide is showing 0.7mm space.

If you’ve only put your separator in for half an hour, then it’s unlikely you’d have any space when you take it out, you’d simply have a contact point that’s easier to get through.
