Today's the day we tackle our raised garden bed soil mixture for our own little urban homestead. When I researched what type of soil is best for a raised garden bed on the good ole internets, I got a handful of results, to say the least. Some good...some...not so good. There are tons of articles talking about Mel's Mix, made famous by Mel Bartholomew who wrote the book on square-foot gardening. Then there are those who have "made the perfect raised garden bed soil mixture" that seems to be a made up mix of all sorts of goodies. We went somewhere in the middle of all of that, leaning more towards Mel's Mix than anything. One more step and box checked on our backyard urban homestead and DIY raised garden beds.
