what is mean
what is mode
what is median
Central tendency is a statistical measure that represents the center or typical value of a dataset. These measures, also known as measures of center, summarize a data distribution with a single number. The three most common measures are the mean, median, and mode. Measures of central tendency
Mean
The mean, or average, is calculated by summing all values in a dataset and dividing by the number of values. I
Median
The median is the middle value in a dataset ordered numerically. If there's an odd number of values, it's the middle one;
with an even number, it's the average of the two middle values. The median is preferred for skewed distributions or data with outliers because it's not affected by extreme values. For {1, 2, 3, 4, 10}, the median is 3. For {1, 2, 3, 4}, the median is 2.5.
Mode
The mode is the most frequent value in a dataset. A dataset can have one, many, or no modes. It's the only measure for categorical data and is useful for finding the most common value in any dataset. In {3, 5, 8, 3, 7}, the mode is 3.
