The main duties of an executor of a Will is to preserve, protect and administer the estate of the deceased and carry out his/her wishes. This includes paying off debts and taxes, and distributing the assets to the beneficiaries as stated in the will. The executor has a responsibility to do so in a timely manner, and to act in the best interest of the beneficiaries.
