We tested 9 products to find the cheapest way to solidify the liquid waste in our DIY Four Wheel Camper toilet, using the "bag and toss" method of waste disposal. We first found a suitable "simulated urine" salt solution then used it to test 6 polyacrylate superabsorbent gelling agents plus cat litter and pine pellets. Then we searched for the cheapest polyacrylate we could find on Amazon and tested it with the "real stuff" to confirm the results. Our cost dropped to about one dollar (US) to solidify 2 quarts (1893ml) of urine. Products tested included RESTOP2, Go Anywhere WAG bag, Eco gel, Carex commode liners, Miracle Gro water absorbing crystals, kids "Instant Snow", Wenge Degradable Gel, cat litter and pine pellets. Absorption data and a cost comparison are provided.
Our DIY toilet and waste management practices and FWC bathroom are covered in our previous video ( • Our DIY FWC Bathroom ).

Notes and Clarifications
1. We have no affiliation with any product manufacturer or vendor, nor with Amazon.
2. Three products stated on the package that they absorb 2 qts or 2 liters of liquid waste. We measured only 74%/46%/87% of the stated amount for WAG Bag/Eco/Carex although it depends on salinity of the waste and how solid the product is. Our criteria was no fluid leaking out even if there is a hole in the bag.
3. We found about 13.4 gm/L of NaCl simulates urine absorption based on 2 samples. This is higher sodium content than expected based on clearance statistics, but potassium in urine also degrades the absorption capacity so the higher NaCl concentration appears to account for the potassium in urine as well.
4. For single use products with a bag, we removed the polyacrylate and tested it as we did the bulk products, so the costs for them (RESTOP2 and WAG bags) may reflect more than 1 kit to solidify 2 quarts and the cost is therefore unusually high. Nevertheless, as polyacrylates, they are still very effective absorbers and good products for their purpose and the sturdy bag is a plus not included by the others. Bag costs are not considered.
5. Our cost comparison is based on buying the cheapest multi-packs we could find on Amazon in April 2023: RESTOP2 was 5 pkgs for $27.08, WAG Bag was 6 pkgs for $22.99, Carex was 21 pkgs for $16.99, Eco gel was 25, 10 gm pkgs for $13.99, Miracle Gro was12 oz for $12.99, Instant Snow was 19 oz for $15.99, Pine Pellets were 40 lbs for $8.99, Cat Litter was 7 lb for $1.87, and Wenge Degradable Gel was 32 oz for $22.79.
