Modi in France: Defence Deals Await Approval
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to France, two major defence agreements are on the verge of finalization. The first involves the purchase of 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets, valued at around ₹63,000 crore, which is awaiting approval from India’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). These jets are set to enhance the Indian Navy's capabilities, with deliveries expected between 2027 and 2031. The second deal involves the procurement of three additional Scorpene-class submarines, worth ₹33,500 crore, to be built in collaboration with French company Naval Group at Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL). These submarines are expected to be delivered over the next six years. Both agreements aim to bolster India's naval strength, reinforce strategic ties with France, and improve India's ability to maintain security in the Indo-Pacific region.
