What is a sabbatical leave? A sabbatical leave is when you take me period of time away from your current job to write, to do more research, or to explore other opportunities. Sabbatical leaves are quite popular in academia and in church ministries. However, I’ve also seen sabbaticals within the traditional workplace.
Professor sabbatical leaves are often used to increase research output more to explore other possible schools to work at. Some people will do a sabbatical leave to collect additional research in order to explore another culture. If you’re teaching international business, for example, exploring another culture is very important.
Generally, you have to earn your sabbatical leave before you can take it. It will vary by institution, however most institutions will allow you to go on a sabbatical leave after you become an associate professor, or a full professor.
Often, academics that are on sabbatical leave will use academic apartments, or an apartment in exchange to live at an institution for a few months. However, I think most people are using Airbnb now.
Why is it important to do sabbatical leave? Sabbatical leaves will allow you to explore and find new opportunities. Often, we get stuck in a rut and exploring new opportunities will allow us to become more productive in the long run. For example, sometimes professors on sabbatical leave will find work colleagues at another institution that they can coauthor with. Some of these coauthor relationships can be very productive.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
