In 1943, Italian Foreign Minister Galeazzo Ciano voted in the Fascist Grand Council to remove Benito Mussolini from power.
After Mussolini returned to authority in northern Italy under Nazi protection, Ciano was arrested and put on trial.
In 1944, he was executed by firing squad during the Verona Trial.
Even though Ciano was Mussolini’s own son-in-law, the Fascist regime showed no mercy.
