Up north, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Canadian National serves the local industries, chief among them Forestry, Papermaking and Mining. The L552, based out of Gladstone Yard, serves one of the largest single industries on the customer list, the Verso Paper Mill in Quinnesec, Michigan.

With the massive paper mill receiving and shipping a whole train each day, the L552 has impressive tonnage on a varied and interesting route, up the old CNW branch towards Iron Mountain.
