Welcome back to The Jen and Elke Show! This week, we are tackling a HUGE issue that is silently costing Zazzle designers sales, particularly on highly customizable products like invitations, announcements, and holiday cards.

This critical mistake happens when you set up your text bounding boxes incorrectly, allowing customer customization to break your design and lead to abandoned carts.

The Hidden Danger of Text Bounding Boxes

When you create a text field that a customer can customize (a template), Zazzle creates a bounding box around it. This box defines the space in which text can flow.

The Mistake (Why You Lose Sales):

If your text bounding box is dragged beyond the edges of the safe design area (over the green dotted bleed line) and you post the product for sale, the design looks fine on your end because your placeholder text fits within the boundaries.

The Problem:

• No Warning is Given

• Customer Experience Fails: When a customer with a longer name or more details inputs their own information, the text will flow into the oversized bounding box, pushing it off the printable page.

•The Result: The customer sees their final customized design look messy, unorganized, and disoriented, leading to immediate frustration and a lost sale (abandoned cart).

The Solution: How to Set Up Text Templates Correctly

To maximize your sales and ensure a perfect customer experience, use these two simple rules when setting up text templates (especially on invitations):

1. Keep the Bounding Box Safe: Ensure the entire bounding box is placed inside the green dotted lines.

2. Use the Size Tool, Not the Scale Tool

3. Give Room to Flow: Extend the bounding box downwards (using an anchor point at the top) or sideways (staying within the green lines) to allow room for extra customer information (like a last name or long date) to fit neatly without falling off the edge.

By correctly setting your text bounding boxes, you prevent customers from breaking your beautiful design and ensure they complete the purchase.
