So, in this Video i will Share How to keep Chicken Litter Dry and Maintain Chicken Health Status along with Precautionary Measures to Stop Different Pathogens attack over Chickens.
Heat Stress is a Major Challenge in Poultry Production especially during the Summer Months ( Monsoon Season / Rainy Days ). It occurs when birds face difficulty in achieving a balance between body heat produced and heat lost. This imbalance can lead to several health issues and production losses. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the causes and responses of Chickens to Heat Stress and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to minimize the adverse impact on production.
There are several causes of heat production apart from the environmental heat. Some of them notably are higher feed intake, higher density feed and / or overcrowding of birds in a limited space, etc.
Heat Stress response to Maintain normal body temperature :
Increased panting
Lesser feed intake and chicken drinks more water which can cause loose droppings
Reduced physical activity
Spreading of Wings
Moving towards shades or towards the place where airflow is more
Blood - Swollen Wattles and Comb
Diverting blood from internal organs to the skin which darkens skin colour
This content is about Managing Extreme Summer Temperature with Backyard Chickens by Dr. ARSHAD Veterinary Clinic.
The most basic and important needs are :
Shade
Water and
Ventilation
Chicken should have a place to get out of the sun when the begin to get too warm. This may be trees or specifically constructed shades. Ensure that the shady place has proper ventilation. The insides of small coops or other enclosed buildings can get very stuffy. Ideally, hens will have a more ventilated shaded area, but if that is the only source of shade a fan can help, move Air around.
Chickens should always have access to fresh, clean, cool water, especially in the summer. Provide Multiple water sources located in shady, cool areas of possible to encourage hens to drink. Add ice cubes, ice blocks or frozen water bottles if needed to keep water cool.
Musters are another way chicken keepers cool their flocks.
Feed consumption during extreme heat waves will likely go down, a hot chicken will have a decreased appetite. For this reason, it is important to limit treats and extras. Preventing heat stress is much easier than treating it. Have a plan to help your birds during the peak of Summer.
Provide Extra Space
Change Water Frequently
Clean Waterers and Feeders
Keep an eye over maximum and minimum temperature
Maintain required airflow
Maintain proper humidity
Keep the coop well ventilated
Free range during cooler parts of the day
Avoid panting
Keep your flock Stress free
Avoid Temperature Shock
Control Predators
Cleanliness
Disinfection
Biosecurity
