In this episode, dumptruck_ds explains how one simple command can bring a whole new lighting aesthetic to custom Quake maps.
Here are the settings I used to create the surface light in the lava version of this map.
"classname" "light"
"_surface" "*lava1"
"_color" "255 106 32"
"wait" "2.5"
"light" "215"
"_surface_offset" "32"
Here are the command line switches I used for the lava map:
qbsp.exe -splitturb
light.exe -extra -soft4 -dirt 1 -surflight_subdivide 64
vis.exe -level 4
