Описание: This educational video documents feather development and related behaviours in an African Spotted Eagle-Owl owlet (Bubo africanus) observed in a nest box.

The footage highlights several feather-related features and behaviours, including ear tufts (often mistaken for ears), interaction with loose feathers, preening activity with visible feather dust, and changes in resting posture as feathers develop.

Feather dust visible in the air during preening is a normal by-product of feather growth and maintenance, while feather handling and texture exploration support sensory learning related to plumage condition.

The owlet is also observed resting on the edge of the nest, a behaviour linked to body alignment, balance, and feather positioning during development.

Recorded in a purpose-built owl nest box positioned approximately 3 metres above ground in a private garden in Johannesburg, South Africa. The owlet is being raised naturally by an adult female.
