In this video, Trainer Art, from Horizon Roofing, Inc. will show you how to install an EPDM outside corner patch using a 9” round patch designed for inside and outside commercial roofing corners.
First, you need to hold back the flap of rubber that remains unprimed. To do this, you will take a bit of primer and put a dab on the membrane to hold the flap back and out of the way. The video depicts this nicely. Next, you will fully prime the side where the 3” seam tape will go, make sure your primer is comprehensive enough. For the last step with the primer, prime the flap you held back. Go all the way to the edge, inspections like to see a prime line.
Once the primer has flashed off, you can set your seam tape. Get tight to the corner, going all the way to the bottom. Fold your flap over to see how the seam fits. If it’s too long you’ll have to cut off the excess amount, you only need ¼” of seam out. Once you’ve confirmed the length is right, you can roll it in with your hand roller. Put a lot of focus on the seam, so it’s adhered down.
To finish the inside corner, you are going to use a 9” round patch, designed specifically for inside and outside corners. Fold the patch in half and then again the other way. Take the tip and set it at 90. In this order, set the bottom, the top and then the inside. The last side you’ll make a dog eat with the patch, set and fold in. Take your primer and stick the dog ear back flat. To cover the part of the patch that’s still up, you’ll take a 5” patch and place atop of it. Roll the patch out, paying close attention to the seams. When you’re done rolling take lap sealant around the patch to prevent water from getting in.
