Norway Baroni | Baroni is a historical place that is 700 years old and is located in Rosendal.
The castle from 1665
In 1658 there was a wedding between Norway's richest heir and a proud Danish nobleman. Karen Mowat and Ludvig Rosenkrantz were given the farm Hatteberg in Kvinnherad as a wedding present, and here they built their tiny castle which they called Rosendal. The castle was completed in 1665. King Christian V of Denmark-Norway raised the estate to the Barony of Lens in 1678. From 1745, Baroniet Rosendal was owned by the Rosenkrone family, who in 1927 gave the estate as a gift to the University of Oslo. The Weis Rosenkroneske Stiftelse DWRS, affiliated with the University of Oslo, today has ownership responsibility for the castle, park, garden, the homestead Treo, the Fruehuset and the breeding grounds with the surrounding cultural landscape.
A visit to Baroniet Rosendal is a walk through different style periods. Rooms and halls have been shaped by different owners over 250 years, and the castle is still preserved as a home as the last owners left it in 1927.
The Governor's Chamber, the only completely preserved room in Norway from the 17th century, is covered with French textile wallpaper from the 1660s. This textile wallpaper is the only wallpaper of its kind still hanging up.
In the Blue Hall (the dining room) you can admire some of the oldest Meissen and Royal Danish straw pattern porcelain found in Norway.
In Den Røde Sal, one encounters the beauty and grandeur of Norwegian nature, depicted by the leading Norwegian landscape painters from the National Romantic period. Here are paintings by JCDahl, HFGude, M. Møller, A. Askevold, etc. There is also a portrait of a woman by Edvard Munch from the 1880s.
The Yellow Hall is furnished in Norwegian Empire style, with some of the most valuable Empire furniture in the country. Møblane was made by Abraham Bøe from Bergen around 1820.
