Merredin Military Museum - Western Australia

The Merredin Military Museum is located on the Great Eastern Highway in the large regional town of Merredin that lies between Perth and Kalgoorlie.
It is about a 3 hour drive from Perth.

The museum first opened on ANZAC Day 1999, 60 years after the outbreak of World War Two.

It was largely created by members of the Merredin District Historical Society and is operated by volunteers.

There are a number of interesting exhibits in the museum including items such as an M113 armoured personnel carrier and a UH-1H Huey helicopter from the Vietman era.

The only other Huey on display in W.A. is at the Bullcreek Aviation Heritage Museum.

Vehicles from World War Two include an M3 Grant tank, universal carrier, 25 pounder artillery piece, a two pounder anti-tank gun and many more soft skinned vehicles and armoured cars.

You will find a Macchi MB326 training jet with a ramp so you can easily see inside the cockpit.

A number of the vehicles in the museum are operational and feature in local parades from time to time.

Displays inside the museum buildings include uniforms and equipment, interactive displays, audio recordings and sections covering World War One to Vietman.

The museum is situated next to the local railway station which houses another musem focusing on local railways.

The museum typically opens from 10am to 3pm daily but as opening times are dependant on ath availability of volunteers, it is always best to phone and check before you plan to visit.

A small fee is charged for entry to help with maintenance of the site.
