On July 28, 2025, NASEO convened a NASEO Electricity Markets Education Initiative webinar, What Are Electricity Markets and Why Do They Matter. During this call, Amanda Ormond and Frank Felder discussed the fundamentals of electricity markets in the United States and their importance for state energy policy. This webinar offered the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of electricity markets, the wide spectrum of different market structures, and how different structures can affect state energy policy from reliability to economic development to transmission planning.
