When you learn polish, it’s very important to remember features of characters.
There are two important informations about vowels, which we have to remember:
First thing is that ą and ę – vowels with „tails” are called nasal vowels. When you prononuce them, you should feel vibration in your nose.
Lets try. Ok?
What is funny about nasal vowels, is that we pronounce them as ą and ę only before w, f, s, z, ś, ź, sz, ż, h, ch.
I other cases we pronounce them in different way.
Before p and b like om and em,
for example: ząb [zomp] ‘tooth’, gąbka [gompka] ‘sponge’, sęp [semp] ‘vulture’.
Before t, d, c, dz, cz, dż and ć, ci, dź, dzi and also k, g like on and en,
for example: kąt [kont] ‘angle, corner’, prąd [prond] ‘electricity’, rączka [ronchka] ‘handle’.
Before l and ł like o and e,
for example: wziął [wziou] ‘he took’, wzięli [wzieli] ‘they took’.
At the end we pronounce ę like e and ą without changes like ą,
for example: lecę [lece] ‘I fly’, mają [mayą] ‘they have’.
