🔍 Episode Overview:
At 2:24 a.m. on August 25, 2024, Officer Nathaniel Franco of the Athens-Clarke County Police spotted a black 2014 Jeep Wrangler. It rolled without headlights and swung from W Broad Street onto S Milledge Avenue. He tailed the Jeep and flipped on his emergency lights for a stop. The driver took a wide turn onto a side street, then pulled over.

Franco stepped out and approached the driver. She was 20-year-old Amelia Pappas. While talking, he caught a strong whiff of alcohol. He saw clear signs she was impaired. Amelia first denied any drinks. Then she admitted to one earlier that night. She said she left a frat house and headed to her UGA student spot.

He suspected DUI. So he asked her for field sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Franco noted no smooth eye tracking. Nystagmus jerked at max deviation and started before 45 degrees. He saw vertical nystagmus too.

Next, the Walk and Turn. Amelia missed heel-to-toe steps. Her turn was off. She took the wrong number of steps. Last was One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. It dropped early.

Her wild drive, booze smell, drink admission, and bad tests led to arrest for DUI. Franco read the Georgia Implied Consent Notice right there. She agreed to breath tests.

They took her to Downtown Precinct first. Her breaths clocked 0.256% and 0.243% BAC. Both topped triple the 0.08% limit for those over 21. That "credit card" in her bra? A fake Mississippi license for an over-21 woman.

Franco loaded her into his patrol car. He drove to Clarke County Jail for booking. She got summonses for DUI with 0.08g or more (40-6-391(a)(5)) and no headlights (40-8-22).
