Our broccoli did not form good crowns, but we aren't wasting any of the plant during this harvest.

When we left for a two week vacation, our broccoli had not formed any crowns, but by the time we returned from the vacation, the crowns had already formed and begun to sprout. Normally this looks like broccoli failure, and I think many times we would be inclined to compost the entire plant and just start over, but with broccoli, that isn't necessary at all.

Broccoli crowns that are going to seed are still edible, broccoli leaves are delicious, and the broccoli stem is also very tasty. In this video, we show you how we are going to use every part of the broccoli plant, and any leftover parts that may be too woody are going to go into our worm bins or our compost bins.

So, if you have ever wondered: Can I eat broccoli leaves? Can I eat broccoli stems? or Can I eat a broccoli crown that is going to seed? The answers are yes, yes, and yes. And on top of that, broccoli can be eaten as broccoli sprouts and broccoli microgreens.
