The horror caused by the Hamas terrorists with their incredibly brutal attack on innocent Israelis is hard to put into words, and talking about it is difficult. The attack has been condemned in the strongest terms, but wishing to contextualize the terror, some have added a «yes, but», with a view to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Must this be seen as an attempt to play down or even justify terror? Can «acute evil» be contextualized at all? And conversely: Can terror be judged independently of its context? Why does it seem so difficult to separate criticism of Israel from anti-semitism in our conversation, and when did we lose this ability to differentiate? How can we escape the cycle of retaliation and move towards forgiveness when injustice and guilt are so deeply ingrained?

Our guest is the German-Israeli philosopher Omri Boehm, professor at the renowned New School for Social Research in New York, who considers the two-state solution a definite failure and instead proposed a binational republic on the territory of present-day Israel and Palestine in his 2020 book «A Future for Israel – Beyond the two-state solution». Barbara Bleisch and Wolfram Eilenberger have spoken with Omri Boehm.
