I added 40 clownfish at once to my reef! Yes, I am nuts.
I wanted to increase the bio load of the tank and I wanted aggression between fish to be dispersed.
So 40 clown it was...
Something like anthia's were out of the question due to their expense and eating habits. Multiple large tangs at once isn't a good idea either and nothing allowed me to add so much movement to the tank at once while increasing the amount I could feed as well.
The idea behind increasing bio load is the natural increase of nutrients in the water in turn allowing me to test for nitrates and phosphates at a detectable level and have confidence my reef is getting the nutrition it needs. Nitrate and Phosphate are the result of organics in the tank. For a long time I have been artificially adding nitrates and phosphate to the tank to keep my SPS happy. However this, to me, was a bandaid for low nutrients. Adding 40 new mouths to feed allows me to feed more and remove more waste from the tank via skimmer. High in, high out. Thats my idea of how to properly feed your tank without dosing so many bottles of product.
