Bhukti refers to worldly things, essentially meaning material pleasures. This is often why people seek God; they are distressed by worldly troubles or have unfulfilled desires, believing that God is the best source to fulfill these needs. In fact, isn't this the reason why 99% of people go to God? However, in this discourse, the author emphasizes not asking for Bhukti. When we approach God for material reasons, we often forget about the law of karma, which states that every action has consequences—"jo jasa karai, so tasa phala chākhā." Our sufferings are often consequences of our past actions. Yet, people often pray to God, offering Him five kilograms of laddoos in hopes of mitigating their miseries, treating God like a judge whom they can bribe with sweets to sway His verdict. But God, like an incorruptible judge, is the dispenser of the law of karma, and one cannot bribe Him with offerings.

Currently, there is an ongoing matter in the U.S. where a Supreme Court Justice is suspected of accepting bribes. But can God be bribed? We may plead, "Oh God, by my karmas, this is what I deserve, but here are five kilograms of laddoos as a bribe." And even in this offering, there is a lack of faith, as we often say, "If you do my work, then I will give you the laddoos." Why don't we offer the laddoos upfront? Because if our wishes aren't fulfilled, the laddoos would go to waste. We make similar deals with government officials, offering bribes upfront and expecting the work to be done later. However, with God, we don't even have that much faith. God is not corruptible. He follows the universal law that says, "As you sow, so shall you reap." This law is stated in all the world's religions, and we need to have faith in it.

God can sometimes break His own laws, but even that has a condition: the law of grace. If a soul is deeply surrendered to Him, the law of karma can be waived, and grace can take over. When we achieve that deep level of surrender, why do we still ask God for trivial things? It's akin to a child in a jewelry shop, surrounded by priceless gems, who chooses a piece of chocolate over a jewel worth half a million dollars because the child's intellect only appreciates the chocolate's value. From the divine perspective, we do the same thing. We ask for material gains, while God offers us so much more in His divine abode.

When we approach God asking for various desires, we risk requesting the wrong things. A wiser approach is to surrender to God, acknowledging that we don't know what's best for us, and trust Him to decide.

Even in spiritual pursuits, the desire for Mukti, or liberation, can be seen as a form of selfishness. While one person might be selfish for material gains, another might be selfish for spiritual ones, desiring freedom from worldly bonds. Though seeking Mukti is not wrong—many scriptures declare it as the ultimate goal—Ved Vyas, in the Srimad Bhagavatam, went beyond this by introducing Kitab Rahit Dharma, a concept of defect-free dharma centered on Prem, or divine love. This Param Dharma, or supreme dharma, is astonishing because it binds even God Himself, who is otherwise free and the administrator of Maya. In this divine love, God becomes bound by the devotee's love, illustrating the extraordinary nature of Prem.
