When was Marty Robbins born? Did Marty Robbins star in any Western movies? Who was one of the best western ballad cowboy singers?
Martin David Robinson was born on September 26, 1925. He was known professionally as Marty Robbins. He was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and NASCAR racing driver. Robbins was one of the most popular and successful country and western singers for most of his nearly four-decade career, from the late 1940s to the early 1980s.
Marty was born in Glendale, Arizona. He taught himself guitar while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and drew fame performing in clubs in and around his hometown. In 1959, Robbins released his signature song, "El Paso", which won him the Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording. The song began Robbins' association with western balladry, a style that would become his career staple. Big Iron, a later release that drew critical acclaim.
Marty starred in the Western movies, Ballad Of A Gunfighter 1964 & Guns of a Stranger 1973
Funny enough, Marty Robbins does not sing in the 1964 movie The Ballad of a Gunfighter. However, his song "San Angelo" is featured on the soundtrack.
Marty Robbins sang in the 1973 movie Guns of a Stranger. The American singer-songwriter wrote and sang the title song ‘Guns of a Stranger’, as well as other songs in the movie.
