Running a pressure washing business in the Canadian winter is a logistical nightmare. If your pump freezes, your business stops.
In Part 1 of this winter series, I give you a full tour of my Pressure Pro Hot Skid winter setup. I walk you through the bypass plumbing, the antifreeze tank system, and the equipment I keep in my heated garage vs. the freezing trailer.
I also tackle a recurring problem: frozen intake valves. To fix this, I install a self-regulating heat trace cable on the plumbing lines to keep the fluids moving. But as you'll see by the end... having the right gear is only half the battle. Sometimes, the chemistry fights back.
❄️ WATCH PART 2 (Coming Soon): See what happens when my "perfect" antifreeze setup turns to slush and I have to troubleshoot a frozen machine on a job site.

(Check the "Winter Operations" list for the specific heating cable!)
THE WINTER PROTOCOL: To operate in sub-zero temps, you need three things:
Heat: A high-BTU burner is non-negotiable.
Circulation: You cannot let water sit static in lines.
Chemical Protection: Displacing water with antifreeze (Propylene Glycol or Methanol) when the machine is off.
A Note on Chemistry: In this video, I am testing Propylene Glycol (RV Antifreeze). While safer, it has a higher viscosity in extreme cold than Methanol (Washer Fluid).
Stay tuned for Part 2 to see why this distinction matters!
