Metal Detecting & Prospecting California's Abandoned 1900s Gold Mines

Описание: We are back in the Southern California desert for an epic day of metal detecting and hard rock prospecting! I’m joined by Harry from ‪@mineoperator‬ and we are hitting some high-potential washes where historical records suggest massive nuggets have been found.

After a quick detour to fix a flat tire (the story of our lives!), we head deep into the backcountry to explore 100-year-old mule trails and forgotten mining prospects the old-timers might have missed.

⚙️ The Strategy: Metal Detecting & Hard Rock Geology

We’re putting the Gold Monster 1000 to the test. Unlike pulse induction detectors, this machine is a beast at sniffing out small, shallow gold in highly mineralized ground.

Bedrock Crevicing: Recent historic floods have moved massive amounts of sand, exposing bedrock that hasn't been seen or touched in a century.

Limonite & Iron Staining: We’re looking for those oxidized, "redder is better" veins where gold is often trapped in the iron-rich powder.

Hydrothermal Vents: Exploring epithermal vein systems and altered Quartz Monzonite host rock to find rich gold pockets.

⛏️ Discovery & Artifacts
Follow along as we navigate washed-out trails, find 100-year-old artifacts (like an original Ortega's Chili can!), and dig signals that range from old boot nails to promising mineralized float. We also explore several historic "open cut" prospects to see exactly how the old-timers followed these narrow, high-grade stringers.
