Correction: Murphy's Bypass refers to trail on the right. Murphy is not the tram line, LOL!
The Koko Crater Railway Trail, aka the Koko Crater Stairs, is a 1.6-mile out-and-back trail on the southeast side of Oahu. There are about 800 railway tracks or steps (there used to be 1048 steps, thanks to erosion and wear and tear) to get to the summit, which sits at 1208 feet above sea level. The total gain in elevation is about 1000-1200 feet, depending on who you believe.
While it is debatable as to whether the Koko Crater Trail is indeed Oahu's hardest hike, it is definitely the most unique and arguably the most dangerous in my opinion. It is certainly one of the most famous hikes in Oahu as it offers panoramic views of the Honolulu shoreline, Hanauma Bay and Hawaii Kai.
A must-do if you're in Oahu and love a good hike!
