This channel follows the restoration and sailing of Nomad — a 25-foot wooden gaff rigged Sharpie sloop designed by John and William Atkin. Built entirely of wood, she’s light, simple, and perfect for exploring the shoals, creeks, and wild coastlines of Florida’s Gulf Coast.
About the Boat
Sharpies are flat-bottomed working sailboats with roots in 19th-century America. Originally used by oystermen, they were valued for being easy to build, easy to beach, and able to sail in just inches of water. Nomad is based on the Atkin New Sister design, which is based on their Shoreliner — a rugged, shallow-draft cruiser with classic lines and camp-cruising charm. It was built at Joest Boats, where Cody apprenticed a shipwright over a decade ago and began his maritime journey.
