We talk about the largest non-nuclear explosion in history, which happened in Canada during World War I.
On December 6th, 1917, a French munitions ship called the Mont-Blanc collided with another vessel in Halifax Harbor. The resulting blast from the ship's TNT, picric acid, and benzol cargo leveled most of Halifax, killed nearly 2,000 people, and injured thousands more. 🧨
The explosion was so powerful it was heard in Boston, 400 miles away, and remains one of the deadliest manmade disasters in history, second only to nuclear weapons.
