Tattershall Castle rises proudly from the Lincolnshire fens, a striking addition to the otherwise flat landscape. Built by Lord Ralph Cromwell, the Treasurer of England, Tattershall Castle was designed to show off his wealth, position and power.
Built of brick, in an era of stone, this fortified manor is one of the earliest and the finest surviving examples of medieval brickwork.
Inside, the opulent interiors were also designed to impress. Huge Gothic fireplaces, elaborate tapestries and church-like windows feature throughout, showcasing Lord Cromwell's privilege.
Despite its grand appearance, Tattershall Castle has had to overcome its fair share of conflict, decay and destruction over the years.
