(0:16) In this throw Nage is in an open stance and he moves so that his chest is parallel to Uke's chest and almost touching Uke's chest. Physically this is not difficult but Nage's body will want to move to the side away from the knife. Nage must have the attitude of attacking Uke and go straight into Uke. Most people find this difficult and must practice until they get the technique and overcome their fear.
(0:35) The trick is to move around the knife as it stabs. I do this by shifting my weight towards the knife an moving just before I am stabbed. I do not know how I do this. I do this by having the feeling of attacking Uke rather than defending myself but also avoiding the knife. The logic is like soldiers being ambushed. The best chance of survival is to charge into the ambushers and overwhelm them.
(0:52) When doing the structure break Nage's hands go towards Uke's face and to the side of Uke's face away from Nage. This time Nage's right hand did not cross Uke's face and it worked but Normally both hands cross Uke's face. Nage's hands lead the knife away from Nage's body. This is very important. If the right hand crosses Uke's face it goes over his head getting a useful reaction.
Nage must keep his hands above Nage's head and bow to lead Uke forward and down. Nage's left arm is drawing Uke down and in this case Nage's right arm is just helping Nage move exactly with Uke. If it is a contact throw Nage's right arm can sweep Uke down with force so be careful with your partner when you start getting close to correct. To do the throw Nage's arms must reach up. When Uke strikes or grabs this is done with an Attack Reflex just like a bull in a bull fight. Nage's lead arm (left) will hook Uke's Attack Reflex and draw Uke's strike past Nage and down. This is a quick, strong throw because Nage's pivot is the throw. Nage's bow with the pivot draws Uke down.
