This is a female giant house spider, Eratigena duellica. It's probably one of the largest spiders you can find in your house (in the US) if you don't live in an area with tarantulas. When placing your hand down to scoop up the spider, make sure not to pinch its legs against the sink, or it'll probably get angry. After this, you can easily place one hand in front of the other to keep the spider away from your body as you move outside and let it go.
Do not ever grab a spider, as it is a good way to get bitten. Always let a spider be the one to crawl onto you.
