In 2023, Fort Lee - named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee - was historically renamed Fort Gregg-Adams to honor Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg and Lt. Col. Charity Adams.
Lt. Gen. Gregg, 94, attended the ceremony. It was the first time a base was named after a living person in modern history.
But in 2025, just 10 months after Gregg died, the Trump administration used a legal loophole to strip their names and restore "Fort Lee" - officially honoring a different soldier, but effectively restoring the Confederate legacy.
