Why is my vacuum not picking up dirt?
If it was a Roomba, I'd say the last software update made it so smart it has decided to protest endlessly cleaning up after you.
It is not smart enough to get out from under the recliner when it gets stuck. And the problem is my upright vacuum.
Then my first guess is that the vacuum bag is getting full. It can't get decent suction if the bag is full.
The vacuum certainly seems to have suction.
Or it simply puts the dirt back when there is no room.
So I need to change the vacuum bag.
You might need to change the vacuum's air filters. If those are clogged, the vacuum has trouble getting suction to suck up dirt.
If I empty or change out the bag, that should solve the problem.
If the vacuum bag has room but the filters are clogged, it will either have poor suction or overheat as it works twice as hard to expel the exhaust.
Any other ideas?
Check the height of the roller brushes. If the brushes are too high for the flooring type, it won't pick up anything.
The song "She's so high above me" just started in my head.
Try lowering the vacuum head to get the shorter carpet.
I don't think that's the cause.
So check the head and make sure there isn't a bunch of pet fur or twine wrapped around it, preventing it from picking up new stuff. Or it might not be turning at all, worsening the vacuum's performance.
Any other tips?
Make sure the hose is clear. If there are dust bunnies hiding in there, the vacuum can't pick up the dirt well no matter how new the bags and filters are.
It has not smelled musty.
So check the vacuum's belt. If that broke, the unit's motor may run but it won't actually clean worth a flip.
That's because the vacuum's brushes and stuff are not turning.
