Discover the history of the de Havilland Vampire Mk 1 Serial LZ551/G on display at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton and discover why it is General Manager Marc Farrance's favourite aircraft in the collection.
Marc takes a look at the extensive history of the de Havilland Vampire.
On 3 November 1945, Royal Navy pilot, Leitenant Commander Eric 'Winkle' Brown RNVR, made the first ever carrier deck landing and take off by a jet aircraft. The manouver was carried out by this Vampire on HMS Ocean, which can now be seen at the Fleet Air Arm Museum.
