The key to generating power in the knee strike is to drive your hips forward and swing your arms. Pretend you are trying to knee through your opponent when you throw the knee.
From your normal position you need to do a quick switch step before throwing the knee. If you don't do a switch step you can take a step forward and throw the left knee.
The key to this strike is getting the right timing. If you are too far from your opponent they will not land the knee strike on you.
