Over 22 seasons (2000–2021), Patterson amassed a 181-79 record, making him the winningest coach in Horned Frogs history. His tenure was defined by a rare upward mobility, as he successfully guided TCU through three different conferences—Conference USA, the Mountain West, and finally the Big 12. Under his leadership, the Frogs claimed six conference championships and reached 10 or more wins in 11 different seasons.

Defensive Dominance and Iconic Wins
Patterson was widely regarded as a defensive genius, pioneering the 4-2-5 scheme that consistently neutralized high-powered offenses. His units led the nation in total defense five times (2000, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2010). The pinnacle of this era was the 2011 Rose Bowl, where TCU defeated Wisconsin to finish a perfect 13-0 and No. 2 in the final polls.
