📙 Digital Eclipses' 'Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration' seems like it's the greatest historical game collection ever made. Over 100 games, documentary material, and a nice frontend.

Breakout (1976) is Atari's classic brick-breaker. It is a discrete integrated circuit game, which means that it doesn't use a microprocessor. It was co-designed by Nolan Bushnell, creator of the first commercial arcade video game, 'Computer Space' (1971), and founder of Atari (1972). A prototype was implemented by Steve Wozniak in collaboration with Steve Jobs, who, according to several sources, cheated Wozniak out of most of the payment for the design. Same year, Jobs and Wozniak co-founded Apple, and Wozniak went on to design the Apple I and Apple II.

Atari's Sprint games were big arcade machines with a steering wheel and gear shift for each player. Sprint 8 (1977) was a crazy 8-player monstrocity, and it now had colored cars.

Super Breakout (1978) is a Breakout sequel with 3 modes, one where the walls approach you, one where extra balls are trapped in the wall, and one where you play with two paddles at the same time.

Missile Command (1980) is one of my favorites, a trackball-controlled missile defense game, the ultimate Cold War game.

Warlords (1981) looks weird and cool, and it can be fun in multiplayer to break down your oppponent's castle walls with your fireballs.

Centipede (1981) is one of the more famous trackball games, a strange game where you're shooting mushrooms and trying to control the movements of centipedes while being attacked by other bugs.

The sequel to Centipede, Millipede (1982), is very similar to Centipede, except with even more crazyness.

Digital Eclipse made a new version of Breakout, 'Neo Breakout' for this collection. It's neat, and does some of the same tricks as Bit.Trip: Beat did back in 2010.
