Holy Cross-Immaculata Church in Cincinnati announced plans to restore their three cast bronze church bells that are in urgent need of repair. The 149 year old bell tower was silenced in 2008 because the equipment that houses and rings the bells has become dangerously fragile and in need of replacement.

The Verdin Company, a 166-year-old fifth generation, family-owned Cincinnati firm, originally installed and electrified all three bells. Company records show the largest bell was installed in 1860 and the two smaller bells were added in 1903 for $350.

Although the church bells are designed to last for centuries, the bolts and equipment that hold and ring the bells have become corroded-- making them unsafe to ring. In addition to the equipment that holds the bells, the clappers will be restored or replaced to improve the tonal quality.

Since 1842, Verdin has been casting and restoring fine church bells, enabling clients to create their own piece of history.
