Finding citizens who are willing to run for public office is a growing challenge. Ballot Ready reported that “the rate of uncontested races was higher in 2024 than in previous cycles across all levels of government.” This is being seen locally as well.
We will hear from three women who made the decision to put their names on the ballot. They now hold elected positions in Champaign County. Program Team member Peggy Patten, who served on the Urbana School Board from 2009-2021, will moderate the Zoom program.
Regina Crider – Rantoul Village Board Member (also an LWVCC member)
Diane Marlin – Urbana Mayor, 2017-2025
Vanna Pianfetti – Champaign City Council Member, District 5
