The understanding of pressure points and vulnerable targets has largely been lost from mainstream karate. I believe the system was historically taught in private (in Okinawa), but did not make it into the public karate curriculum. For safety in working with the public, young people, and in competition, the targets devolved into 'head' and 'body'.
