Tuft Testing - Right Wing Root Aft
First test shows stock configuration. Note the separation of the boundary layer (even flow reversal!) above the area of the flap hinge.
Second test is a repeat of the first, but with the passenger's vent open. This explains why no reduction in speed when that vent is opened.
Third test is with Vortex Generators mounted on the side of the fuselage, inline with the leading edge of the wing. Obviously, these were not successful in this configuration, and have been removed. Repositioning them further aft may help, but that would interfere with the passenger getting out of the aircraft.
I'm thinking that a larger-radius fairing between the flap and the side of the fuselage in the aft-wing-root area would be a good test...
Flow over the aft section of the canopy was a pleasant surprise.
